Sketches for 2014, number 9 — Carcassonne

Location: Carcassonne, France
One day late, this is a sketch of the fortified town of Carcassonne in southern France.

It was used as the Google doodle yesterday, to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of French architect, Eugène Viollet-le-Duc. His restorations often included substantial modifications. In Carcassonne, he added the pointed roofs which are not typically found in this region of France – usually featuring more in the north of the country. This is the Google version:

This post is part of a series of sketches for 2014 that I will be posting every 3rd day. I will draw people and things from around the world that I find beautiful or interesting. The series will end on 29th December 2014 with post number 121.
