Sketches for 2014, number 15 — Simon Willard clock

Location: Washington DC, USA
My sketch is of a Simon Willard clock, made around 1810, that can be found hanging at the White House, in the lobby of the West Wing. The clock can be seen on the wikipedia page about Simon Willard’s clocks.

There are more beautiful clocks in the world than this, but I’d rather spend time sketching that seeking them out. This one has mild interest as Simon Willard was a friend of Thomas Jefferson, and has at least 1 other piece in The White House. His clocks can also be found at various other old US institutions, and so is important from an American history point-of-view.

My sketch debt

I owe 4 sketches:
Sketch 16: Monday 17th February
Sketch 17: Thursday 20th February
Sketch 18: Sunday 23rd February
Sketch 19: Wednesday 26th February

This post is part of a series of sketches for 2014 that I will be posting every 3rd day. I will draw people and things from around the world that I find beautiful or interesting. The series will end on 29th December 2014 with post number 121.
