Fashion illustration: contrasting shapes

In today’s lesson of my self-directed fashion illustration course, I went through section 3.4 of Bil Donovan’s Advanced Fashion Drawing: Lifestyle Illustration.

3.4 Contrasting shapes

This lesson was about using contrasting shapes in the same way as using opposition to add interest to the illustration. Contrasting shapes include long vs short, horizontal vs vertical, curved vs straight, busy vs simple.

For this session, I produced 2 drawings of the fantastic Rike from Draped in Cloudlets giving us a twirl. With her permission I have included the original source photo below for reference.
