After the success of the free sessions in Princes Street Gardens, I heard about a similar session in the National Gallery of Scotland. Unfortunately this was a different format geared towards quick in and out, so I only managed the following.
15 minute sketch from a live model, in a kimono:
Not the Tory Party logo. This was a practice sketch before adding trees to the following picture.
These were drawn in the Princes Street Gardens, at a free session tutored by artist David C Forster. The view was from near the Ross Fountain. For a nicer composition, I only included 2 of the benches and moved them. And the central path is imaginary. This was drawn on dark paper with pencil, charcoal and chalk.
In the next session, I drew Edinburgh Castle. This was made from a similar location to the previous drawing.
Just as with the first picture, David Forster gave much helpful advice that greatly shaped the results. I was very pleased to learn he was giving a watercolour course that Autumn. That was to be my next course – not before doing a sketch in the gallery.
